3.21 Dear Volunteer Dear Volunteer; The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County Association, recognizing that literacy is fundamental to lifelong learning, responds to the learning needs of adults. As an organization, we have been responding to the learning needs of adults and helping adults improve their literacy skills since 1993 by sponsoring upgrading classes in various communities in the Cape Breton County. These classes are small (fewer than 15 students) and instruction has been provided by dedicated instructors and (sometimes) instructor assistants. Frequently, though, students need individual assistance with portions of the class work. This is where you, the volunteer tutor, will become part of the instructional team. Your task will be to assist the student with class work that the instructor has prepared for you and, following the tutoring session, to update the instructor on the student’s progress with the assignment and problems or concerns you and/or the student may have encountered. Your work with students will be a vital piece of our response to meeting the needs of adult learners. On behalf of the members of the Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County, our staff and students, I welcome you to our organization and thank you, in advance, for your commitment to learning. Sincerely, Karen Blair Coordinator |
