Section Three:

3.1 The general responsibilities of all Association employees shall be as follows:

  • to attend regularly at their place of work, following the schedule and hours of work as contracted.
  • to maintain good communications and working relationships with their supervisor, colleagues, students and the general public.
  • to notify their supervisor of any absences, problems or concerns as soon as possible.
  • to abide by the Policies and Procedures of the Association.
  • to abide by the responsibilities/conditions outlined in their signed contract/job description.
  • attend staff meetings as outlined in Section 3.16.

3.2 Before the end of each school year, the Association’s senior staff person will meet with each instructor to determine their availability for the upcoming year and offer positions for the upcoming year, as appropriate. If necessary, the senior staff person will request applications for and hold interviews to select a pool of available instructors for Association programs.

3.3 Each employee will be contracted to a specified term of employment, which may be amended subject to changes in programming and/or funding.

3.4 All employees will be provided with an appropriate job description.

3.5 A probationary period of three (3) months will apply at the commencement of each contract period to coincide with the policies of the Labour Standards Code.

3.6 Prior to the completion of any three (3) month probationary period a performance appraisal will be completed for each employee. This performance appraisal will be conducted during normal working hours by the Association’s senior staff person; with the exception of the senior staff person’s appraisal which will be conducted by designated members of the Board. The purpose of this performance appraisal will be to determine the manner in which the employee is carrying out the duties assigned by their job description and will be based upon observation of the employee’s work and an informal interview with the employee. During this informal interview, any problems identified will be discussed with the employee. A copy of the completed performance appraisal will be provided to the employee and attached to their personnel file.
