3.7 Disciplinary action, when necessary, will be at the discretion of the Administrator and Board of Directors. Any employee who is identified to be neglecting significant areas of their responsibility will be warned in writing about the deficiencies in their performance and placed on probation. If sufficient improvement is not evident, the employee will be subject to additional action, which may include termination of their employment. Should termination occur, the employee will be provided with reasons for this action in writing.

3.8 Any employee who wishes to resign from the employ of the Association is requested to give at least two (2) weeks written notice.

3.9 Any unresolved employment disputes will be referred to the Board of Directors.

3.10 Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County employees will be classified as either full time or part time.

Full time employees work twenty (20) or more hours per week and will be paid on a biweekly basis.

Part time employees work fewer than twenty (20) hours per week and will be paid on a biweekly basis.

Payroll will be issued every second Thursday. Employees must submit a completed and signed Record of Hours Worked form for the previous two (2) week period to the office on the Monday immediately prior to each pay date.

3.11 Instructors are responsible to adhere to class schedules as prearranged; except by prior arrangement with the Association’s senior staff person.

If it is necessary for an instructor to miss one or more classes or for a class to be canceled for any reason, the instructor will be expected to notify the office and the students by telephone that the class will be canceled. Part-time instructors will make up class time lost due to cancellations.

If school is canceled by the School Board due to inclement weather, classes are automatically canceled. Classes in any locations will be automatically canceled due to unsafe working conditions in that location, in accordance with OHS. Instructors will be paid for canceled classes only when classes are canceled because of school closures or unsafe conditions, IE no water, no heat etc.

Classes will not be scheduled for Civic Holidays or during the school breaks for Christmas/New Year’s and March Break.

Employees will be paid at their regular rate for Statutory/Civic Holidays which fall upon regularly scheduled working days.
