Policies and Procedures

3.12 Sick leave is accumulated by employees at the rate of one day per month to a maximum of six days. A record of the accumulated sick days of each employee will be maintained. Any employee who is off sick for more than three (3) consecutive days must supply a Doctor’s certificate upon their return. Any employee who will be off sick must notify their immediate supervisor as soon as possible of their absence and make arrangements to notify their students if the class will be canceled. 3.13 All employees, except as noted below, shall receive four (4) % vacation pay, to be paid as earned. Full time employees, whose contract period is one (1) year or more, shall not be paid vacation pay but shall earn paid vacation days at the rate of one (1) day per month. The employee may use this time, or a portion thereof when mutually convenient. 3.14 Any administrative employee who is required to work in addition to their regularly scheduled working hours will accumulate compensatory hours on a one for one basis, by prior arrangement with their immediate supervisor; these hours to be used by the employee when mutually convenient. 3.15 A Personnel File will be maintained for each employee. This file will contain a copy of the employee’s resume, payroll information, including Records of Hours Worked, Performance Appraisals, and any other relevant documentation. This file will be open to the employee. Personnel files will be retained for three years following separation. 3.16 Staff Meetings for all employees shall be held on a regular basis, as determined by the senior staff person. 3.17 Professional Development opportunities will be provided for all employees. The Nova Scotia Tutor and Instructor Certification Program is a requirement of employment and must be obtained by those requiring it at the first available opportunity. An honorarium may be paid to each instructor participating in these activities. 3.18 Employees are entitled to up to three (3) days paid bereavement leave on the death of a member of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, parent-in-law). Employees are entitled to one (1) day paid bereavement leave on the death of a member of their non-immediate family. 3.19 Occupational Health and Safety The Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County is committed to providing a healthy and safe work/study environment for its employees/students/volunteers and integrating that commitment into our everyday activities. To realize that commitment, we will implement the following Occupational Health and Safety Policy. |
